MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – The Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce recently held a panel presentation dubbed, “The Business of Non-Profits: Building Community and Long-Term Sustainability,” which brought members of the non-profit community together to put the effect of local non-profits into perspective.

Stacey Cohen, president of Co-Communications, Inc., served as Moderator of the panel presentation.
Panelists discussed the idea that non-profits have a significant place in this country's—and Westchester County's—economic and social well being.
In Mount Kisco, five non-profits – The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester, Northern Westchester Hospital, Ability Beyond Disability, Mount Kisco Child Care Center, and Neighbors Link – employ 1,538 individuals and give their business to an average of 41 vendors in the local community.
Northern Westchester Hospital is the largest employer in Mount Kisco with 1,300 employees.
Topics of the panel’s discussion covered included achieving success, overcoming challenges, board development, common myths relating to non-profits, impact on the local community, and strategic partnerships. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of collaboration and shared resources among non-profits with Mount Kisco serving as a model community.
“It is vital for the community at large to consider how non-profit agencies can remain sustainable and viable in an ever-changing economic environment,” said Cohen. “On a local level, Mount Kisco non-profits contribute significantly to our community by engaging thousands with valuable jobs and invaluable services.”
