MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Go-kart racetrack and bowling alley Grand Prix New York is collecting toys for needy children this season through the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program.

Now through Dec. 20, the deluxe indoor entertainment center is asking people to bring new, unwrapped toys to Grand Prix New York Racing/Spins Bowl at 333 N. Bedford Road in Mount Kisco. The business collected more than 200 new toys during last year's drive.

“Toys for Tots is a great way to provide a little holiday cheer to local children who might otherwise go without,” said Nat Mundy, vice president and director of marketing at Grand Prix New York.

The program began in 1947 when Maj. Bill Hendricks and a group of Marine reservists collected 5,000 toys for needy children in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve.

Nowadays, Toys for Tots campaigns are conducted nationwide during October, November and December. As of 2009, Toys For Tots had collected and distributed almost 500 million toys.

As an added incentive to give this year, Grand Prix is offering a complimentary go-kart race for anyone who donates one or more toys totaling at least $20.

“I hope that we will once again see our generous patrons and staff support this wonderful program," Mundy said.
