Town officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking on an $11.6 million project designed to improve the infrastructure in downtown Chappaqua.
The 18-month project will replace aging water and sewer mains.
"Residents can look forward to new wider sidewalks, attractive new public spaces, new crosswalks and traffic/parking improvements," Supervisor Rob Greenstein said. "The project will make it safer and more enjoyable to walk around our downtown, and finally provide us with an infrastructure platform that allows our downtown to grow and prosper."
Greenstein said while there will be some short-term inconvenience, the end result will see downtown Chappaqua in a position to grow and prosper.
"There is going to be bigger, outdoor seating areas," Greenstein said. "We want downtown Chappaqua to be a place where people can come and relax. That's what has Armonk has."
The improved infrastructure will make the hamlet more attractive to downtown tenants, Greenstein said.
