Restaurateur Plans Expansion Into Former Flying Pig Location In Mount Kisco

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Constantine Kalandranis, the owner and chef of Nyack restaurant 8 North Broadway , is ready to expand on the Hudson River's other side by opening a pair of eateries in Mount Kisco and Harrison.

Heidi Raker, a spokeswoman for Kalandranis, said the Mount Kisco location will be called 251 Lex and is scheduled to open in June. It will have 100-plus seats, Mediterranean cuisine, outdoor seating, a full bar and room for a spit roast.

The Mount Kisco restaurant will be at 251 Lexington Ave., Raker said. The site was once the location of The Flying Pig on Lexington.

"We want our patrons to feel like they are walking into the dining room of someone’s home, an unpretentious, comfortable place to enjoy great wine and high-quality, fresh seafood and seasonal preparations,” Kalandranis said in a statement. “The open-kitchen element will create a sense of intimacy and play, and heightens the excitement patrons feel about the entire dining experience.”

The Harrison restaurant will be called 273 Kitchen. It will be at 273 Halstead Ave., which is near the train station, according to the announcement, which adds that a soft opening in early April is planned.

The new Harrison eatery is described in the announcement as a "30-seat Mediterranean wine bistro offering a raw bar and small-plates menu that suits the intimate space."

273 Kitchen will be a 50-50 ownership from Kalandranis and Michael Raneri, who is a friend of his, according to a follow-up statement. The ownership for 251 Lex will include Kalandranis, Raneri as a "silent partner" and family members.

Describing why Mount Kisco was chosen, Kalandranis offered a follow-up statement in response to a inquiry from Daily Voice.

"We wanted a tripod of neighborhoods that were close (and far) enough but also unique in their ways so we could start to really use the address name thing as a way to really individualize the cuisine from a neighborhood standpoint."

Kalandranis also addressed the selection of Harrison.

"We like Harrison as a focal point of being in a neighborhood where some cuisines are still to be invited just as we like Kisco for the amount of successful restaurants and businesses that have taken historic footing."
