With the help of Elle Magazine and P&G as sponsors, the salon and day spa raised more than $4,000 last week for the Disaster Relief Fund, which is still helping those crippled by Hurricane Sandy get back on their feet.
“I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the Hairdressers Helping Hairdressers (HHH) benefit for fellow beauty professionals impacted by Hurricane Sandy, on December 9 at Canoe Studios in New York City,” said salon owner Ricky Mason.
Mason said he, along with his business partner Joseph Norris and their salon staff were greatly moved by the show of unified support at that event and decided to get their salon, and the Mount Kisco community, involved in something that would assist the efforts to help hairdressers that have lost their homes and businesses.
“There are many hairdressers that have lost everything and every dime we can raise towards helping out and giving them a new start,” he said.
Mason said he remembers being in that position not too long ago.
“The Disaster Relief Fund is particularly dear to us at Richard Scott, as we are no strangers to the devastating effects of disaster,” he said.
“In 2007, our business was very nearly wiped out of existence after an unfortunate fire but thankfully we have been able to rebuild it. Since that difficult time in our history we have moved from strength to strength and are an important fixture in the village,” Mason added.
Mason considered last week’s fundraiser as a “true success,” as over 150 people attended, enjoying consultations, tours, refreshments and music. Elle Magazine had sent out hundreds of email invitations to their local subscribers in an effort to share a red carpet event that was celebrating—and raising money for—a great cause.
“For those affected by devastation, the horizon can appear dark and the future bleak,” recalled Mason. “It can be helpful to hear from those that have gone through the same despair that survival is more than possible. Richard Scott is thriving now and so can others.”
