Vegan Eatery Andy's Pure Food Opens In Mt. Kisco

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — Offering wheat-free, dairy-free and gluten-free options, new vegan restaurant Andy’s Pure Food opened its doors at 41 S. Moger Ave. on July 17, taking over the space where Connie’s Bakery & General Store sold its gifts and sweets for eight years.

The Andy’s menu is vegan and raw, though it includes some lightly steamed vegetables. In addition to soups, sandwiches, salads and wraps, the restaurant has a juice bar where customers can create their own fruit smoothies.

“We come up with recipes and we use different vegetables depending on the season,” said Mount Kisco manager Onur Ozkoc.

The restaurant’s fresh ingredients are sourced from local farmers markets, Ozkoc said. Foods like quinoa, nut milk, goji berries and wheatgrass, and fresh vegetables like spinach and kale, abound in Andy’s recipes.

"This place is amazing," said customer Ilene Davis of Chappaqua, who said she loves to buy the coconut water when she visits the Rye location. "The food is great."

Davis said she has tried one of the store’s juice cleanses. These juices come in plastic bottles customers can take home along with instructions on when to drink and how much. Ozkoc said some people do the cleanses for weight loss and others to detoxify their bodies.

Owner and founder Andy Ozgur started the business with his flagship store in Rye four years ago. With two more restaurants in Larchmont and Scarsdale, the Mount Kisco destination is Ozgur’s first venture into northern Westchester County.

Andy's has always had people come from all over the county to get their raw food fixes, but the greatest number of customers comes from Mount Kisco, said Ozkoc.

“We knew there was going to be great traffic in this store, but we didn’t know it would be so soon,” Ozkoc said.

Aside from this, Mount Kisco is a commercial hub, he said. People from Bedford, Armonk, Chappaqua and beyond regularly come to Mount Kisco to shop and eat.

Connie’s, which gave all of its profits to charity, closed on May 31. 

Connie’s announced the closing with a statement on its Facebook page, which said the store plans to reopen and continue its philanthropic venture in Washington, D.C.
