For residents of Putnam and Westchester Counties in New York, 911 Restoration and Robison Oil have formed a partnership that benefits anyone who experienced damage due to snow and ice.

“This was an extremely snow heavy winter,” said John Campbell, Regional Manager of 911 Restoration, a Westchester based franchise that specializes in water, fire and mold remediation. “We’ve had several calls to inspect and repair what homeowners thought was minor leakage but was just a hint of major damages. There have been millions of dollars in damages thus far this season.”

Icicles hanging along the eaves of your house may have looked beautiful, but they may have also been an indicator of trouble to come. The same conditions that allow icicles to form -- snow-covered roofs and freezing weather -- also cause ice dams which are thick ridges of ice that build up along the eaves.

These dams can cause gutters to tear off, loose shingles, and water to back up into your house. That can result in peeling paint, warped floors and stained and sagging ceilings. Also, soggy insulation in the attic loses R-value and becomes a magnet for mold and mildew.

Ice dams can also be a sign of a larger insulation problem according to Mike Brown, Owner of Bright Home Energy Solutions. “Unless the heat is held back by insulation, it will rise up and melt the snow on the roof. A blanket of snow on your roof is a sign of good insulation while patchy snow melt is a sign of poor insulation.”

David Singer, President of Westchester based Robison, agrees. “As a home’s oil, gas or electric energy provider, we received several calls this winter from homeowners looking for assistance when they noticed hazards like this. Homeowners instinctively know they must address the danger immediately to mitigate potential nightmares down the line. We were glad to be able to direct homeowners to a trustworthy source like 911 Restoration,” Singer said.

Some repairs may also involve structural integrity issues that need to be immediately addressed.

911 Restoration works directly with individuals and insurance companies to gain back a safe atmosphere in the home.
