MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester held a cocktail reception in celebration of June’s Humanitarian Award Dinner at Blackstones Steakhouse in Mount Kisco on Monday, March 31.

BGCNW celebrated the success of gala co-chairs Linda Mahon, Lee Manning-Vogelstein and Lisa Shrewsberry for their efforts.

BGNW Execuive Director Brian Skanes applauded this year's Humanitarian Award recipients, Stuart Marwell and Marc Lener, club alumnus and past Youth of the Year recipient, respectively, for their continued support.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Boys & Girls Club’s 75th anniversary celebrations and to be recognized as the 2014 Humanitarian Award recipient,” Marwell said.

“As an alumnus, I take great pride in watching the club continue to positively impact the lives of thousands of children in our area each year.”

Lener spoke at the reception about his experience with BGCNW.

“For me, the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester was like a home," said Lener.

"For many kids, it is a second home and, for some, their first home. I came from a humble background, and with help along the way from the likes of staff at the club like Dennis Munson, my swim coach, father figure and friend, I was accepted into an Ivy League school and found success in my career.”

He is currently a psychiatry resident at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he is training to be a private practice psychiatrist and neurobiological researcher.

The 20th annual Humanitarian Award Dinner will be held on June 7 at Lexus of Mount Kisco. The event is open to all, and former club members, parents and volunteers are especially encouraged to attend. The cocktail reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $350. Sponsorship tables are also available.

For more information about the Humanitarian Award dinner or to purchase sponsorships or tickets, contact Jean Skanes at or 666-8069, ext. 111.
