This discussion, part of the hospital’s ongoing speaker series, will focus on sports and recreation-related brain injuries, specifically concussions, among children and adolescents. Parents, coaches and athletic trainers are all encouraged to attend.

Lavinsky's involvement with NWH's speaker series was sparked by the unfortunate concussion of her 13-year-old son while playing lacrosse.

After learning the news about Lavinsky's son, co-host Christina Dochtermann approached Lavinsky to ask if she would help co-host the educational program and she agreed.

"I am eager to do whatever I can to help encourage conversation and connect others to the latest information on concussions," said Lavinsky

"It is truly disconcerting how symptoms don't always present themselves right away."

Lavinsky, her husband, son and daughter live in Bedford. She enjoys volunteering and supporting Fox Lane Middle School where her children attend sixth and eighth grade.

Tickets for the discussion are $10 per person. Click here to learn more about the upcoming community discussion and to purchase tickets.
