The festival is part of the center’s SummerFest events, which include outdoor concerts, movies, children’s entertainment and new this year, a sidewalk chalk competition to include local and regional artists creating art throughout Cross County Shopping Center.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, nearly 20 artists will create temporary works of art in a chalk medium throughout the mall, reflecting the competition’s theme, “Summer in the Park.” Four prizes will be awarded at the end of the day in professional and amateur categories.

Some of the judges include Debbie Scates, manager of partnership marketing at ArtsWestchester, and Denise Mananas, director of marketing and public relations at St. John’s Riverside Hospital.

Also, internationally recognized street chalk artist Anthony Cappetto will create an original, unique chalk design for Cross County Shopping Center.

Cappetto is the president of Art for After Hours, a company he created in 2001 that implements professional 3D/4D chalk art experiences around the world. Cappetto will begin creating his 14x14 chalk art Wednesday for a grand reveal Saturday.

Children are invited to attend the Kid’s Zone from 1-3 p.m. to enjoy face painting, hopscotch and more. There will be free arts and crafts on The Green, in the center of the mall.
