Keith Kiminski, 30, of Galloway, was arrested on Sunday, Apr. 7, the Galloway Township Police Department said in a news release. He was given several charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest.
Galloway police responded to a home on the 300 block of Cresson Avenue after several 911 hang-up calls. Body camera video released by the police department showed Kiminski's mother answering the door and telling an officer that her son had a knife.
Kaminski is then seen charging at the officer on the video. In the news release, police said he stabbed Officer Erik Tarnow on the right side of his face with a folding pocket knife.
Tarnow and Officer Hunter Thomas tackled Kiminski to the ground, fighting with him for several minutes until more police arrived. Kiminski was then taken into custody.
Tarnow and Thomas were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, in Atlantic City. Tarnow was listed in stable condition with a significant cut to his face as of Monday, Apr. 8.
Thomas was released later in the evening after he was treated for a minor head injury.
"This incident is another reminder of the dangers that our police officers face on a daily basis," Chief Richard Barber said. "We are grateful that Officer Tarnow is recovering well, and our department will be here to fully support Erik and his family."
Kiminski was held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility to await a court appearance.
