Mt. Kisco Church's Pumpkin Patch Opens Friday

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y.—The United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco's annual pumpkin patch returns for the eleventh year on Friday.

Every fall, thousands of pumpkins are loaded onto trucks at New Mexico's Navajo Reservation and travel east to Mount Kisco where they are set up in a striking display on the church lawn at 300 E. Main St.

“We are often described as ‘the pumpkin church’,” said United Methodist Pastor Karen Burger, who began as the Mount Kisco congregation's new leader in July.

A fund-raiser for the ministry and missions of the church, the pumpkin patch has become a communitywide event. The church welcomes volunteers to pitch in and help unload the trucks on Thursday and Oct. 19 starting at 4:30 p.m.

“Pumpkins are not only for sale, but make a great photo backdrop," Burger said. "I can’t wait to be involved with the pumpkin patch for the first time."

The patch, which will run until Oct. 31, will be open Sunday to Friday from noon to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco has scheduled a number of other events this October, including story times with local preschool classes, a Blessing of the Animals service on Oct. 14 at 10:15 a.m. and a “Great Pumpkin Festival” on Oct. 20.
