Mercedes Irizarry, 71, Of Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Mercedes Irizarry, a resident of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, Feb.9. She was 71.

She attended business school prior to marrying and starting her own family. She was employed for many years by the State of Connecticut IRS as a Division Judge assigned to the Bridgeport and Milford Jai Alai.

She is survived by her husband Hector J. Irizzary Sr., along with her mother Manuela Vadi, and her children Arlene Irizarry Hadipour, Susan Pal and her husband David, and Hector J. Irizarry, Jr. and his wife Beth, all of Bridgeport. She is also survived by her brother, Daniel Vadi of Bridgeport; her sister, Augustina Romanick of Lansing, MI; her cherished grandchildren, Siobhan Hadipour of Bridgeport, Jessica Irizarry of Bridgeport, Joshua Irizarry (LCPL), U.S. Marine Corp. of Bridgeport, Julian Irizarry (ITS3), U.S. Navy, currently stationed in Guam, and Jordan Irizarry (Airmen) U.S. Air Force, currently stationed in Germany.

She was predeceased by her father, and her brother Juan Parrilla.

Friends are invited to greet her family on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with a committal service to follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery.
