Truck Brings Down Utility Pole In Westport

Updated 8:15 p.m.: Riverside Avenue has reopened and all power has been restored in the area, Westport police reported Friday evening.

WESTPORT, Conn. – Power is out in the area surrounding Riverside Avenue from Post Road West to Burr Street after a delivery truck struck a utility pole Friday morning, causing it to break, Westport Police Capt. John Calka said in a news release.

The accident happened at approximately 7:15 a.m. The truck was pulling up to the sidewalk to make a delivery when it hit the pole, bringing down wires and a transformer. Riverside Avenue is closed between Burr Street and Post Road until further notice, Calka said.

Connecticut Light and Power estimates power will be restored to that area this evening, police said. As of 10:25 a.m. Friday, CL&P reported 152 outages in Westport; that’s 1 percent of total CL&P customers in Westport.
