Through a grant that was secured by the Cortlandt Community Coalition, the Department of Public Safety conducted a series of checks targeting local delis and gas station convenience stores to ensure that no alcohol is being sold to minors.
During the sting, county police sent a youth volunteer into the store in an attempt to purchase beer. On all 17 occasions, police reported that the store employees refused to make the sale.
In a statement, police praised the businesses for their responsibility, noting that “the Westchester County Police Department and Cortlandt Community Coalition thanks these businesses for their diligence in requiring ID from young people trying to purchase alcohol.”
