Update: Cop was chasing speeding cyclist who crashed, review under way

ANOTHER FIRST POST: An interstate parkway officer was chasing a motorcyclist who had had hit speeds of 100 mph when the cycle smacked into a wall and launched the rider onto the other side of the highway, where he was struck by several cars, CLIFFVIEWPILOT has learned.

Although it appears the Palisades Parkway Police cruiser was following from a distance, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said his detectives “must evaluate the case under Attorney General guidelines concerning police pursuits.”

“We have not completed our investigations and cannot speculate or complete our investigation at this time,” the prosecutor said this afternoon. “We are still in the process of investigating this matter and cannot announce anything specific at this time.”

The victim, a Rochelle Park resident, was traveling south on the PIP between Alpine and Fort Lee, with an unidentified officer trailing him, when he lost control of his blue Kawasaki and was thrown from the bike. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
