SugarBad, a funk and soul band, will be performing outdoors at the Peekskill Brewery, 47-53 Water St. on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The free concert will feature beers from the Peekskill Brewery for $5.

The band just released its new single "Just Can't Stop" and is coming off tours of Italy and performing at the Jazz at Lincoln Center venue.

Bass player Isaac Jaffe is a Northern Westchester native, having lived in Somers, Yorktown and Mount Kisco.

"I am really excited about performing in Peekskill," Jaffe said. "I started playing jazz in Peekskill when I was a teenager. Now I am bringing back my band."

SugarBad plays a mixture of funk and soul like James Brown, Amy Winehouse and Janelle Morae.

"We are here to have a good time," vocalist Lisa Ramey said. "We want the audience dancing, moving and sweating. We are a loud awesome band."

Ramey said she is excited to perform at the Peekskill Brewery because she heard they have really good beer.

The remnants of SugarBad date back to when Jaffe was in college and he met other people who were drawn to funk and soul. Ramey joined the group in 2010.

"That's when the band coalesced into one voice and one drive and we really took off," Jaffe said.

The band's new song "Just Can't Stop" was written as an instrumental beat with Ramey providing the hook.

"The song is about when you really drawn to something or someone," Jaffe said. "I tend to get into things like a certain band. It's a fun song about obsession."

"Hopefully people get obsessed with us," Ramey interjected.

Ramey said patrons can expect to party when they see the show Sunday.

"People say we are having so much fun and it's genuine," Ramey said. "It's terrible to see a show where the band is just phoning it in and going through the motions. ... people can expect to have a good time and be sore the next day from dancing so much."
