MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. The Children's Acting Academy, a nationally ranked acting school with classes for children ages 4 and up, is expanding to Mount Kisco and already gearing up for its first production: "Godspell Jr."
On Sunday, instructors from the 40-year-old academy will host a free acting workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Westchester Dance Academy, 350 Lexington Ave. Auditions for "Godspell Jr." will follow.
Children will put on the show March 2 at the Irvington Town Hall Theater. The academy, which is based in New York City and New Rochelle, recently performed the show at Symphony Space in Manhattan.
In a testimonial on the academy website , Elizabeth Stern, the mother of a 13-year-old student, praised the school for providing a nurturing environment for her daughter: "[It] was a nice mixture of professional expectations and careful nurturing, expand[ing] her own personal goals in dance, acting and singing. For me, the highlight was seeing her conquer some of her fears seemingly without flinching."
Recent productions by the Children's Acting Academy include "Godspell," "Fame," "Seussical," "High School Musical," "Dear Edwina," "13" and "How to Eat Like a Child," which have been performed at Symphony Space, The York Theatre, The Vital Theatre, the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, The Triad and The Duplex Theatres in New York City.
The Children's Acting Academy was recently chosen to be the U.S. representative at an international performance event held at Royal Albert Hall in London. According to owner and artistic director Mimi Stuart, many students have been signed by leading agents and managers and have performed in national tours, on Broadway, and in commercials, TV shows and movies.
Rehearsals for "Godspell Jr." will be held every Sunday at Westchester Dance Academy. The participation fee for five months of classes and rehearsals is $990. For more information, visit the Children's Acting Academy website or call 212-860-7101.
