Plans Shaping Up For Kisco Summer Sunday

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Kisco Summer Sunday is coming this weekend - and the buzz is building.

The July 15 family event starts at 5 p.m. on the lawn behind the Mount Kisco Public Library and Village Hall. It will feature live music by local Beatles tribute band The Aardvarks, an assortment of food vendors, and kids’ activities sponsored by the Kaleidoscope Child Care Center.

KiSS is the brainchild of Occupy Main Street grassroots-movement founders and Mount Kisco residents Sarah O'Grady and Maria Colaco. They said they proposed the event as another way to further the movement’s goal: inspiring business owners, town officials, landlords and residents to come together and do what it takes to revitalize downtown and make the village feel like an attractive, progressive, and interesting place to live, work and do business.

O’Grady, a copywriter and social media aficionado, and Colaco, a social media creative, have prepared for the event, which was approved May 7 by the Village Board of Trustees, by putting together a planning committee to gather and utilize creative input from different community members and business owners.

“We've had a lot of feedback from retailers, and hands-on help, specifically from Beehive Co-Op and Tiger Lily,” said O’Grady.

O’Grady said she would like to see events like Kisco Summer Sunday work as a catalyst to fill the village’s vacant storefronts and creative a more supportive environment for local retailers and restaurants.

“I hope it will spark something in this town to maybe reconsider some of its antiquated zoning and town bylaws, to make it easier to do business here and create a vibrant downtown area,” O'Grady said.

The Kisco Summer Sunday committee has also involved Mount Kisco retailers who want to host sales, discounts, trunk shows and in-store happenings leading up to the start of the event at 5 p.m.
