Despite its humble origins 100 years ago, the Converse All-Star sneaker is still as popular today as it was during the shoe's early days. Founded by Marquis Mills Converse in 1908, the Converse Rubber Shoe Company first produced the forerunner to the iconic sneaker in 1917. The finalized canvas model was designed specifically for basketball players, and featured an innovative non-skid sole and high top ankle support, features not found elsewhere at the time.

With the help of basketball player and marketer Chuck Taylor, the shoe became a hit. Soon, All-Stars were the gold standard for athletic footwear, found everywhere from the hardwood to the Olympics. Today, the shoe remains popular as ever. As styles have come and gone throughout the decades, the Converse All-Star has remained a wardrobe constant for athletes and fashion-minded buyers alike. As the shoe celebrates 100 years in 2017, the Converse All-Star is proof that while some trends come and go, classics are forever.

Whether you're lacing up your shoes to play basketball or just go for a walk, Westchester Medical Center is here to serve the Hudson Valley region, as it has been for the last century.
