Whether vowing to hit the gym more frequently, shed vices or become more environmentally friendly, Westchester is ready to make some New Year’s resolutions, at least some of which will be kept.

New Rochelle resident Kumar Sandu, who owns a pair of beverage depots in southern Westchester, said he is hopeful of opening a third location – potentially in White Plains – in 2015.

“2014 was good for (my family and I), but I think 2015 could be even better. I certainly hope so,” he said. “We’re looking at several locations for a new shop, it’s just a matter of what the best fit is.”

Eastchester resident Hannah Hathaway said that she was eschewing the “traditional get in shape or focus on your career,” New Year’s resolutions, and is instead planning to devote herself to the community.

She noted that she has looked into volunteering with the Eastchester Beautification Foundation and Eastchester Community Action Program.

“Everyone has the same resolutions every year. This year, I want to get out there and do some good,” she said. “It’s something I used to do when I was younger, and I’d like to get back involved.”

Some residents are simply hopeful that 2015 will see the world become a friendlier, more peaceful place.

“I don’t make resolutions for myself, because I never keep them,” Scarsdale native MaryEllen Berkowitz said while finishing her Christmas shopping in the village. “I just want there to be peace and happiness next year.”
