MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- John Hvisch, a Mount Kisco resident and World War II veteran, served the people of Westchester County for 22 years with the Westchester County Parkway Police, but it wasn't until a recent ceremony that Hvisch finally received his police shield.

As a result of unknown circumstances, Hvisch was never given the police shield that officers customarily receive when they retire. When Mayor Michael Cindrich learned of this, he contacted Westchester County Department of Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth to correct the oversight.

Westchester County Department of Public Safety Lieutenant Michael Cindrich, son of Mayor Cindrich, presented John with his police shield Monday evening during the Mount Kisco Village Board meeting.

More than 40 friends & relatives were in attendance to celebrate John’s service to the community. The presentation by Lieutenant Cindrich was a surprise to John, who was noticeably moved by the ceremony.

“John’s service to his country and his county makes me proud to be part of the law enforcement profession and proud to be a member of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety,” said Lt. Cindrich during the presentation.
