Calvi has been an employee of the Mount Kisco Medical Group since 2008 when she was hired as a practice assistant, and in 2013 she became a medical assistant in the Sports Medicine/Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department.

“I feel extremely honored to have been chosen for the 2014 Lions Club Nursing Scholarship,'' Calvi said. "Not only is this scholarship assisting me in pursing my education, but also helping in making my dream a reality. Medicine gives me that clear-minded security that I crave. Although we all strive to feel the pure sense of satisfaction and fascination in life, I was lucky enough to find that in my career. As I continue my education, I vow to never lose site in the most powerful medicine of all; compassion, respect and caring."

In 2012 Alexis graduated Iona College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She is currently pursuing her studies to become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

The Lions Clubs established the Nursing Scholarship as a way to support local high school students choosing to pursue a degree in nursing. The initiative was expanded eight years ago to include a $3,000 award to enable that same education for a local health care practitioner from Northern Westchester Hospital or the Mount Kisco Medical Group.

Local fundraising efforts support the maintenance of this scholarship, and are a way for this wonderful collaboration to demonstrate awareness and commitment to a worthy cause, address a local and national need, support education, and build community.

The scholarship committee comprises co-Chairs Linda DiLisio of the Mount Kisco Lions Club and Raymond Infarinato of the Bedford Village Lions Club as well as Lauraine Szekely, Chief Nursing Officer at Northern Westchester Hospital, Kerry Flynn-Barrett, VP of Human Resources at Northern Westchester Hospital and Leslie Jackson, Sr. Director of Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at the Mount Kisco Medical Group.
