MOUNT KISCO, N.Y.,-- For some people, putting on a pair of shoes in the morning is just a necessity, for others like the owners of Secret Society, Luis Mendoza, Rich Franklin and Chris Quarles, its an expression of art.
Weve been collecting [sneakers] since we were little kids. Its a passion for us. Its a form of expression and fashion, Mendoza said.
Secret Society is a sneaker boutique that recently opened in Mt. Kisco after relocating from New York City.
We figured a lot of people who shop in the City are actually from Westchester, Mendoza said.
When the shop opened on June 25 in Mt. Kisco, the owners realized they were right as sneaker heads from all over Westchester made their way to the quiet shop on East Main Street. Loyal customers have even made the commute from the City to see what new sneakers are available at the shop.
Secret Society hasnt had a hard time finding loyal customers that live right here in Mt. Kisco either. A lot of young kids from the area visit the shop daily to check out the shoes, but mostly hang out with the laidback and inspirational owners. Theres no question why someone with a budding sneaker collection would look up to Mendoza, who has in his collection more than 200 pairs of sneakers.
They have some good shoes here, limited edition stuff, said Joe Stankovic, of Mt. Kisco, who has his eye on a pair of sneakers that cost $125, which hes hoping to save up for.
There are a wide range of prices for the sneakers sold at Secret Society with the most expensive costing around $4,000. This particular pair, taken from one of the owners private collections, is one of only 202 made. Each shoe sports a different design, making them truly unique.
