Corcoran, running as a Republican and Conservative, made his announcement at an event at the Gazebo in Katonah on Thursday.
The kickoff speech was attended by Corcoran's family and current and former colleagues on the Town Board, along with County Executive Rob Astorino, who introduced Corcoran and highlighted his record.
In his speech, Corcoran outlined his platform for the upcoming election: to keep costs down in the county, be an advocate for municipalities when dealing with local zoning issues and remain as committed to bipartisanship as he had been as a Town Board member
“We face a number of challenges ahead of us as taxpayers and citizens. It will be a great honor and privilege to represent our towns and our citizens in the county legislature, an important position that I do not take lightly. I am here to promise you that I will work hard for all us and for our future,” Corcoran said when announcing his candidacy.
District 2 covers Bedford, Lewisboro, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Pound Ridge and part of Somers.
The seat is available because Peter Harckham, D?North Salem, left to accept a post with the state government earlier this month. Alan Cole, D-Lewisboro, Harckham's appointed replacement, is not allowed to run for election under county statutes.
Corcoran's opponent will be Democrat Karen Schleimer, who is the trustee for Mount Kisco. She announced her candidacy on Wednesday.
