Corcoran Edges Mount Kisco's Schleimer In County Legislator Election

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Bedford town Councilman Francis Corcoran has defeated Mount Kisco village Trustee Karen Schleimer to win an open seat in the Westchester County Board of Legislators, according to unofficial results.

The unofficial results, which were published by the Westchester County Board of Elections, show Corcoran receiving 4,900 votes to Schleimer's 4,385. Corcoran's total margin ahead is by 485 votes.

Corcoran ran on the Republican, Conservative and Reform Party ballot lines, while Schleimer ran on the Democratic, Independence and Women's Equality Party lines.

The seat is for District 2, which covers Bedford, Mount Kisco, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, North Salem and part of Somers.

Corcoran's victory represents a gain for the county legislature's Republican caucus. The seat was previously held for years by Democrat Peter Harckham, who resigned in June to assume a post in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration. The seat is currently occupied by Democrat Alan Cole, who is serving as a placeholder for the remainder of Harckham's term.
