The Foxes will be facing Stepinac on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Westchester County Center as part of the annual Slam Dunk Challenge.
Fox Lane coach Chris Violante said his team is excited for the chance to showcase its skills.
"We are playing in the best venue in Westchester," Violante said. "It's a great opportunity to play against a powerhouse like Stepinac. They produce very good teams."
Fox Lane is 6-1 on the season and Violante said his team is eager for the challenge.
"We have senior leadership and depth," Violante said. "We are excited."
Violante said he think it's great that tournament organizers believed his team was good enough to participate in the tournament. Like all teams, he hopes to be back at the County Center for sectionals. (The County Center hosts the Section 1 semifinals and finals for both boys and girls.)
"We want to be battle tested," Violante said. "Our players love it. They want to show much better they've gotten."
Last year Fox Lane went 15-5. Violante said he doesn't think his players are afraid of the big stage having put in a lot of hard work.
"They, as I, look forward to this challenge," Violante said. "We don't want to be 6-2 by the end of the week."
Violante said captain James Morales, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, will be exciting to watch. He also praised Andrew Redhead, a 6-4 senior forward, who will be attending Cornell next year.
Fox Lane is also led by William Paul, a 6-2 senior guard and Thomas Palmerton, a 6-4 senior forward.
Violante said it's important his team plays defense.
"If we don't defend them and work for every basket, we could find ourselves in a predicament that we don't want to be in," Violante said.
