- Local governments that stay within the two-percent property tax cap and work toward consolidation and shared services will be eligible for a two-year freeze on property taxes , Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced in his State of the State address Wednesday.
- Michael Kaplowitz (D – Somers) was elected chair of the Westchester County Board of Legislators by a wide margin, while his coalition colleague Jim Maisano (R – New Rochelle) was elected vice chair by a 9-to-8 vote Monday night.
- Howard Permut, president of Metro-North Railroad , is retiring this month after a difficult year for the commuter railroad.
