The crash occurred at the intersection of Strawberry Road and Eleanor Drive between Officer Michael Kahn and another vehicle, Noble said.

Before help arrived, Kahn was in need of assistance and nearby neighborhood residents and "good folks," jumped right in to help out the officer, Noble added.

"Truly, truly appreciated," Noble said.

The chief also thanked the first responders on scene including the Mohegan Professional and Volunteer Fire Department, Mohegan Rescue, Empress Paramedics, Westchester County Police Department and New York State Police.

The officer was released from an area hospital late Saturday afternoon, Noble said.
