Due to its low dose and superior clinical accuracy, Tomosynthesis replaces a traditional 2-D digital mammography exam. The technique is designed to separate the tissues by acquiring very thin cross-sectional images of the breast.
The images are then reconstructed with computer analysis resulting in superior image quality while reducing the overlapping of structures – typically the limiting factor in standard 2-D mammography. The final results demonstrate high resolution visualization of tiny structures previously very difficult to image and interpret using traditional mammography methods.
