At the meeting trustees fondly remembered their late colleague.
"George was a true American hero, having served his country in Vietnam and our village here in Mount Kisco, for years and years," said Trustee Jean Farber.
Farber also added, “George spoke from the heart and he always spoke the truth, whether you liked hearing it or not."
Mayor Michael Cindrich had an array of memories about Griffin, whether it was receiving political advice from him or his cooking at the local American Legion, where he served as a member. The mayor also thanked those who assisted with Griffin's funeral, which was held on Dec. 29 and included police and firefighters as pallbearers.
“it’s sad,” Cindrich remarked in referring to the ordeal, adding it is “part of life.”
Trustee Anthony Markus recalled serving on the village board with Griffin and Cindrich for more than 11 years, even campaigning together. Markus also praised Griffin for his role in the village's building and grounds affairs.
Referring to his late colleague, Markus remarked he will be “sorely missed by me” as a friend.
Trustee Karen Schleimer also acknowledged Griffin's passing in her board report.
Each of the village trustees attended Griffin's funeral, where Cindrich was among those who delivered a eulogy.
The void left by Griffin's death was visible at the board's meeting. His name plate was kept on the dais, while an empty seat was near it. A rose was placed by Griffin's name plate as a tribute.
