Mt. Kisco Did You Know...?

MT. KISCO, N.Y.—There are some town names such as Washington or Salem that you can find in different states throughout the country, but other town names, including Mount Kisco, remain rare.

Although the exact reason this area came to be known by this name is not 100 percent certain, one popular theory is that part of the name originated from Native American’s who had once settled along the Kisco River.

‘Kisco’ is said to be derived from the Native American word Kiskatamenahook, which means brook.

When a railroad was completed by a mountain referred to as “Kisco” villagers eventually gathered together to name the station. Mount Kisco was chosen.
