MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Mount Kisco officials have begun prep work to keep the village running smoothly before, during and after Winter Storm Nemo, which is scheduled to hit the Westchester area Friday and Saturday.

According to Mount Kisco Highway Department foreman Joseph Luppino, the village has a snow emergency in effect from 12 a.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

The most intense part of the storm is expected to hit Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, although the winter storm watch of the National Weather Service (NWS) runs from Thursday until Saturday morning.

Preparation is well under way for the snow event, Luppino said. "We're pre-treating roads and getting everything ready," he said. "The plows are out."

Additionally, the NWS winter storm watch notes the possibility of "near blizzard conditions… bringing down some tree limbs… and causing scattered power outages," as well as a risk for dangerous driving conditions.

Although he does not expect branches and wires to come down due to the falling snow, Luppino said he believes village officials have scheduled a Thursday afternoon conference call with Con Edison.

In anticipation of Nemo, the Mount Kisco Police Department is asking residents to avoid parking overnight on public roadways during the snow emergency, which is expected to bring gusts of wind up to 50 mph and an accumulation of 6 to 10 inches by Friday night.

Police advise residents to obey the parking ban so plows can keep roadways free of snow for safe travel, and warn that violators will be ticketed and/or towed.

For more information about inclement weather parking prohibitions, residents can call the Mount Kisco snow emergency hotline at 914-241-SNOW or visit the village website .
