Greenwich teen Ben Albano, a first-year student at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, along with his brothers Addison, a senior at Brunswick School and Austen, a sophomore at King, organized the race and signed up participants from seven schools throughout Fairfield, Conn. and Westchester County

Twenty teams of two to five drivers, 16 of which included of kids from Brunswick School, Greenwich High School, Greenwich Country Day School, Greenwich Academy, Sacred Heart, King and Scarsdale Middle School, raced to complete the most laps in the allotted time and competed for prizes which included seats in the Skip Barber Teen Safety and Survival School.

“We are proud to be raising money for the Project Yellow Light scholarship fund, but especially to be raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving,” said Addison Albano. “We raised 50 percent more than last year through the generosity of our sponsors including lead sponsor Paraco Gas, Gerber Group, Petro Home Services, Fresh Green Light Driving School, Rey Insurance Agency, Skip Barber Racing School and Aux Delices.”

Joseph Armentano, chief executive officer, of Paraco Gas, said sponsoring the event was a natural fit for the company because driving propane trucks is an integral part of their business.

“A big part of our business is safety,” said Armentano. “It's very important that our drivers are safe, our employees are safe and the communities we service are safe, so we are happy to give back to the community by being involved in this event.”

Ben, the eldest Albano brother, is a race car driver currently running with Skip Barber in the Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup series, and has been actively involved with Project Yellow Light since 2012. Austen, the youngest Albano brother, who just got his drivers license, looks forward to taking the helm next year.

“Grand Prix New York is proud to be a part of something that inspires safe driving in young adults,” said Vice President Nat Mundy. “Project Yellow Light and the Albano family are doing something phenomenal for these students, and we are honored to be a part of it.”
