The skunk was captured near Willis Place after interacting with family pets, according to Mayor Peter Scherer. Scherer said the Department of Health and Pleasantville Police Department are working together on the case.

The skunk was aggressive with a few dogs that were in a fenced backyard on Willis Place in Pleasantville last week, according to Caren Halbfinger of the Westchester County Department of Health. A cocker spaniel was sprayed the skunk, Halbfinger said.

The dog's owner grabbed a shovel, picked up the skunk and secured it in a garbage can before taking it to Valhalla Animal Hospital, Halbfinger said. The skunk was euthanized at the hospital.

The dogs do not appear to be injured, though all the dogs were given boosters shots, Halbfinger said. No people needed any rabies tratement.

Anyone who encounters an animal that raises concern should call Pleasantville Police at 914-769-1500.
