Reaction Is Given To U.S. Advisers' Iraq Deployment At Mount Kisco Library

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- On Thursday, June 19, President Barack Obama announced that as many as 300 military advisers would be heading to Iraq, a return of an American military presence in the country.

The decision caused concern for two Northern Westchester residents who were interviewed at the Mount Kisco Public Library.

Gail Burlakoff, an Ossining resident and a Quaker, does not believe in violence and opposes military intervention on moral grounds. Reacting to the decision, she said that she was not happy.

Marcy Quinney, who lives in Croton-on-Hudson, is also concerned about the deployment of advisers and gave her reaction as "disappointed". Addressing the past, Quinney compared the deployment to the start of America's military involvement in Vietnam.

The deployment comes due to the military threat posed by a group that has been referred to by various media outlets as either the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Obama, in his announcement, referred to the group as ISIL.
