RYE, N.Y. -- The damage to Rye Playland caused by Hurricane Sandy won't be fixed by the time the park is scheduled to open on May 11, according to a report by CBS 2 New York.

The main boardwalk and seawall were heavily damaged in the storm, and repair work has not begun. The county was supposed to start the repairs but ran into legal problems with its contracts and had to let the project out to bid. Playland is hoping that the repairs will be completed by mid-May, and that the pier and beach can be opened by Memorial Day weekend.

The Ice Casino skating rink suffered heavy damage to its roof, as well as flooding in its basement and damage to its transformers and boilers. The park's general manager told CBS that the rink is not opening any time soon.

The north boardwalk and seaside walk will also be closed when the park opens. The north boardwalk was completely destroyed by Sandy, and is not expected to be replaced until some time in 2014.
