The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2, at 5:30 p.m. at Burke Medical Research Institute, 785 Mamaroneck Ave.

Innovate Westchester will offer opportunities to researchers who want to collaborate and share the innovations that are coming out of Westchester County, a rapidly emerging hub of health care innovation in the United States. “We heard the message loud and clear at our Health Tech ’14: Fueling Innovation in Westchester conference: There is no forum like this for the health tech community,” said Marissa Brett, WCA president.

“When we formed our Accelerate Westchester meetup group for entrepreneurs last spring, we built on the WCA’s long history of serving as an advocate for the business community. Now, Innovate Westchester will foster collaboration and invention among Westchester’s scientists and researchers, leading to growth in the health tech innovation sector, which is our ultimate goal.”

One of the county's leading-edge researchers, David Putrino, Ph.D., director of telemedicine and virtual rehabilitation at the Burke Medical Research Institute, agreed to help the WCA launch this invitation-only group.

Meetings will take place every other month on a variety of topics. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m., with a brief talk led by Putrino titled, "Digital Health and Telemedicine: New Frontiers in Patient Assessment and Rehabilitation."

“The advances in Westchester are astounding,” said Putrino. “From telehealth, to biotech, integrated health, mobile health, biomedical research and more, there’s so much going on in Westchester. I’m pleased to be a part of starting this first collaborative forum for the innovation community, where everyone can meet to share ideas and expertise.”
