Small Piece Of Existing Tappan Zee Bridge Will Be Removed

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Demolition on the current Tappan Zee Bridge isn't scheduled to begin in earnest until 2017, but a small section will be removed to clear room for the new northbound span, according to LoHud.com.

The sections of bridge need to be removed so crews can begin construction on the first foundation pier on what will eventually be the northbound span of the new bridge, LoHud.com reported.
