According to a statement from Burdick’s office, the state of emergency may be extended depending upon the severity of the storm. The order comes as Gov. Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency across the entire state.

During Bedford's state of emergency, there will be no cars allowed to park on the town’s streets, according to Burdick, who said that staff will be working to keep all roads clear of snow and ice. All Bedford town offices will be closed Tuesday.

“We are prepared with road crews, police and other emergency services,” he said in the statement released Monday night. “The snow may be heavy at times with accumulation of up to 2 feet. With gusts as high as 39 mph, there also is the possibility of downed wires and power outages.”

The supervisor said anyone who encounters downed wires should avoid them and then report them to the appropriate agency.

New York State Electric & Gas can be reached at 800-572-1131 or online, Burdick said. Con Edison can be reached at 914-921-6359 for electric-related calls or 914-921-3720 for gas-related calls.

In the event of severe outages, the utilities have said they will activate their storm damage assessment reporting systems, which aims to provide a swift and effective response to such incidents, Burdick said.

According to the supervisor, anyone who needs to be out on the roads should “exercise extreme caution and give yourself extra time to get where you need to go.”

Those who may find themselves in need should also note that the American Red Cross has said that assistance may be made available, Burdick said.

Anyone with questions or concerns should email Burdick at supervisor@bedfordny.gov or call 914-666-6530.
