"We're so happy to be part of this important community organization," said Father Bill Damroth, administrator at St. Francis. “The pantry does great work, exactly the kind of outreach the church calls us to do." The pantry was founded in 1991 by one church, one synagogue and one volunteer. On the day the pantry opened its doors, it served eight people. Today, the pantry located in the United Methodist Church in Mount Kisco serves an average of 250 households a week. This year the pantry is on track to feed more than 30,000 people.
Open twice a week, it is a "choice" pantry, offering enough healthy groceries for nearly four days of complete meals, including proteins, fresh produce and staples. "We are thrilled that St. Francis of Assisi is joining us in our mission to create a healthier, stronger community," says Robert Cummings, board president of the pantry. "They’ll be wonderful partners as we continue to meet the growing need."
In addition to its weekly food distributions, the pantry also offers a home delivery service and supports a mini-pantry at The Fox Senior Center in Mount Kisco. It also offers education on nutrition, food preparation, budgeting and meal planning along with helping eligible clients apply for federal food benefits, such as WIC and SNAP.
