Westchester Communities Seek Hotel Tax

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- While four municipalities in Westchester County already have a hotel tax, the other 14 are seeking to instate the hotel tax as well, which will allow these communities to add up to 3 percent on rates for hotel rooms, according to lohud.com.

The four muncipalities with the hotel tax, also called the bed tax, include Rye, Rye Brook, New Rochelle and White Plains, reported lohud.com.

While the bed tax won't have a direct effect on residents, government officials believe that the bed tax will give these locations an opportunity to increase their revenue, since the tax is only paid by people who will be booking a hotel room, said lohud.com.
