Convery, 65, died last Nov. 15 from an apparent heart attack, the sheriff's office previously said. He was a Tarrytown native and graduate of Sleepy Hollow. He earned his BA in History from Iona College and a Masters in Public Administration from Pace University.

The funeral was held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, which overlooks Lake Mahopac. Scores of police, sheriff's deputies and state troopers lined up for ceremonies before and after the funeral inside. The processions featured bagpipes of the movement of Convery's casket, which was ultimately placed into a hearse.

Convery, who had worked in the sheriff's department since 2002, had a 40-year career in law enforcement, the sheriff's statement noted. Prior to that, he worked in the Westchester County Department of Corrections. Additionally, he served as a Mahopac volunteer firefighter; several firetrucks were also on hand at the funeral.

Officials came representing sheriff's departments and police departments from across the lower Hudson Valley and New York City.

Elected attendees included Putnam Sheriff Donald Smith, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell and state Sen. Terrence Murphy.

In addition to his wife Luanne, Convery is survived by his daughters, Caitlin and her fiancé Rachid Saad, Courtney and her husband Peterson, Kerry and Tara, his son Connor and his wife Kelly, his grandchildren Colin, Isabelle, Peterson Jr. and Jackson, his sister Maureen Beale and her husband Tony, his mother-in-law Edna Piscitella and his sisters-in-law, Janice Demarest and Linda Ortiz.

In addition to his nieces and nephews he is survived by Katelyn Murphy Corsitto and her husband Matthew whom he considered as a daughter and whom his children consider as their sister. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John William Convery and his sister Rosemary Nisco.
