She came to America as a young child, but always remained in contact with her relatives in Italy. The highlight of her 90th year was a trip to her homeland with most of her children and their spouses, and nephew, Stephen and his wife, Terry.

DeGiovanni valued education and learning new things, as well as reading, art, traveling, spending time with her family and hitting the road with her friend, Ann Lanoway.

She began her career as a legal secretary and ended it as a medical professional, working at Northern Westchester Hospital in medical records and coding. Even after her retirement, she continued volunteering many hours at the hospital, which she loved, and to which she was totally dedicated. This dedication was rewarded in her being honored with the “Beacon of Light Award” in 2012.

She was predeceased by her husband, Remo DeGiovanni; parents, Aurelio and Maria (Costa) Mercandetti; in-laws, Domenico and M. Ernestina (Cabiati) DeGiovanni; and sisters, Angelina (Mercandetti) Fox and Diana Mercandetti.

She is survived by her children, Elaine and Michon Stuart, Raymond and Kathy (Kralik) DeGiovanni, Laura and Raymond Schneeberger and Diane and Robert Kelm; grandchildren, Michelle (Moccia) Ryan, Amanda (Schneeberger) Shortt and Tyler Shortt, Daniel DeGiovanni, Marissa Stuart, Lindsay Schneeberger, Jessica DeGiovanni, Zachary Schneeberger, Gregory Schneeberger and Cassandra Kelm; and great-grandchildren, Hailie Ryan and Madison Ryan.

She was interred in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Mount Kisco.
