He was born in Yonkers to the late J. Emmit and Paula Kocak Smith.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College and a master’s degree from both Brown and Fordham universities. He was an executive for Howmedica in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for more than 25 years, then for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in New York City. He enjoyed hiking throughout Westchester County, kayaking and was a member of various book clubs in Westchester and New York City.
He was the husband of Marie Frankowski Smith; father of Douglas Smith and stepfather of Catherine (Steven) Soltis and Henry (Ruth) Frankowski; brother of Richard (Maria) Smith and Linda O'Dierno; and uncle of Katie O'Dierno.
Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Flower Funeral Home Inc., 714 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann's Church on College Place. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
