Dear voters,

My name is Justine Marous and I am running for BOE because I know I can make a difference for our community. Brian Sheerin's supporters have attacked me in local papers with one complaint -- that I am supposedly not a resident and therefore not eligible to run as a candidate. This is not true, and I am personally calling on Mr. Sheerin to reign in his attack dogs. Mr. Sheerin, I am a resident of the district and I am a citizen of the United States.

Today’s attacks have escalated to public harassment of my children and that is not acceptable. Leave my children out of this debate. If Mr. Sheerin cannot run on the issues, such as core curriculum, public funding, equitable distribution of district resources, etc., then he is not worthy of your vote. He really does not have anything to offer on the substance and his silence on these attacks means he approves of them.

I have run a clean campaign on the issues. Neither I nor my supporters have brought up any of Mr. Sheerin’s dark secrets -- believe me he has them -- because that is not the point.

Our children and our community are the point.  It is unfortunate Brian Sheerin is allowing himself to be used as a mouthpiece for a vocal minority bent on dividing our wonderful community. Those supporters represent a divisive, mean-spirited and extremist political agenda we do not want associated with our district's BOE. If this represents the type of board member Mr. Sheerin will be, then he does not deserve your vote. We need someone who can calmly analyze situations, build consensus and get things done.

Recent accusations include my involvement with a foreclosure. Yes, as a small business owner, I know firsthand what financial difficulties come with a slow economy. That’s why I understand how to do great things with little financing. I won my first litigation against my first predatory lender and I am still in litigation with my second. I will win that one, too.

Just to make the record straight. Past and current board members supported by the same vocal minority have all of the same types of issues I have had (bankruptcy, residency and children in private school). This does not prevent them from services our community. It will not prevent me from doing the same.

Mr. Sheerin himself said I was “impressive” and that he would “…hire me to litigate...” for the district. He knows I can do the job. So let us stick to the issues and engage on what we can contribute to our Board of Education.

I will be making the rounds of our community during the next few days. I hope we can talk about the issues, and that you will vote for me Tuesday, May 19.

Justine Marous
