Recently letters have appeared endorsing Justine Marous for the school board. Not only must the qualifications of Marous be questioned but her eligibility must be examined.
When asked about her participation in the 2014 budget vote, Marous said, "Unfortunately for me, last year I spent the year in Paris, France with my children. And therefore I was not present here to get involved in any of the politicing that was going on." Her quote can be found at BCSD TV.
State law in clear on candidate eligibility: “Section 2502(7.) No person shall be eligible to the office of member of the board of education who is not a qualified voter of the city school district and who has not been a resident of such district for a period of at least one year immediately preceding the date of election.” Residency defined as the physical location of the candidate for more than 50 percent of the time the previous year.
Marous countered in a recent letter stating, “I have been a Pound Ridge homeowner and taxpayer without interruption for thirteen years.”
On Wednesday, April 22, the State Appellate Division ruled for Deutsche Bank Trust Co against Gabriel and Justine Marous in the matter of a foreclosure dated June 27, 2013. The decision can be found under NY Slip Op 2015 03315.
Marous needs to clear up if she was involved in this legal action and if so, how has she been a “homeowner and tax payer without interruption for thirteen years.”
In light of the evidence the District Clerk must be held accountable in assuring all candidates are eligible per state law.
Lastly, the Bedford Record Review noted Marous has school age children who attend an exclusive private institution rather than Bedford Schools.
How qualified is Marous to make board decisions for the school's she refuses to have her own children attend? And if the facts bare out Marous was part of the above foreclosure, how is it possible she sends her children to an exclusive private school after a foreclosure while many struggle to pay Bedford’s exorbitant school tax?
