“Miles, I love you," said Shari Applebaum. "Please come home. You mean the world to us."

The vigil, held at Armonk's Wampus Brook Park, included candlelights, along with remarks and singing from officials at the Applebaum family's local synagogue, Congregation B'nai Yisrael.

Shari Applebaum, standing beside her husband, Edward, said that she feels “so numb right now.” She also thanked people from the area for their support.

“You're an incredible community, Armonk, and Chappaqua and all the neighboring communities," she said.

Shari Applebaum also recalled moments from her son's life and things that he would do.

“I see him playing his guitar, I see him running," she said. His mother also said that he loved nature, being outdoors and being with family and friends.

In an interview following the vigil, Shari Applebaum discussed her family's involvement with Congregation B'nai Yisrael, which includes having been members for about 14 years. She also mentioned that she teaches there for third- through seventh-graders.

Miles Applebaum is a Byram Hills High School graduate and Temple University student. However, he took a medical leave from Temple, his mother said.

The 21-year-old was reported missing on Monday, with his last reported sighting that morning. On Thursday afternoon, North Castle Police announced that his vehicle was found in a wooded area nearby New Castle.

Video of Shari Applebaum's remarks is included in this story. It is also available here. Photos of the vigil are attached.
