Man Caught With Fully Loaded Gun In I-84 Speeding Stop

A man was busted with an illegal and fully loaded handgun when stopped in a speeding car on I-84 in Danbury on Sunday, state police said.

Pierre Clemat, 27, of Brockton, Mass., was a passenger in a vehicle traveling 79 mph in a section of I-84 east near Exit 5 in Danbury marked at 55 mph at 1 p.m. Sunday, state police said. A trooper pulled the car over and detected the odor of marijuana, Connecticut state police said. 

State Police K9 Favor was called in and detected marijuana in the vehicle, state police said. 

Troopers also found a loaded 9mm handgun in the trunk, state police said. As troopers continued to investigate, they determined that the passenger was in illegal possession of the handgun, state police said.

Clemat was arrested and charged with weapons in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a firearm. He was released on $2,500 bond and is due in court Oct. 19.

The driver was issued a speeding ticket, state police said.
