Missing Hiker Found Safe In Saxon Woods Park After Insect Bite

Westchester County police and Town of Mamaroneck firefighters located a lost hiker on Wednesday at 700-acre Saxon Woods Park after she called 911 to say she was suffering an allergic reaction to an insect bite.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y -- A hiker reported lost in a Westchester County park on Wednesday was found by nightfall.

At about 5 p.m., Westchester County police joined Town of Mamaroneck firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel to search for the unidentified hiker at Saxon Woods Park off of Mamaroneck Avenue.

Kieran O'Leary, a county police spokesman, said the female hiker made a 911 call to report that she was walking on the yellow trail at Saxon Woods when she was stung by an insect on her right foot/ankle area. She said she had an allergic reaction to the bite and was feeling faint and suffering some blurry vision.

Officers were told that the woman was about 1.5 miles in along the yellow trail from the parking lot adjacent to that trail. Police, fire and EMS personnel began walking the trail and she was located and transported back to the parking area in a Town of Mamaroneck fire chief’s car. She was then taken by ambulance to White Plains Hospital to be treated for the allergic reaction.

"She was found quickly and is OK,'' O'Leary said.
